You are also expected to attend 3 field trip days at weekends throughout the course. These trips are an integral part of your learning and give you first hand experience and expert tuition at some of the UK’s most innovative permaculture sites. Visits include sustainable buildings, permaculture gardens, farms, orchards, wild spaces and community projects. Also included are re-use and recycling projects, self-sufficient communities, woodland communities and Centre of Alternative Technology. Trips vary in duration from one day to whole weekends during which we stay in low cost hostels or dorms.

A one day design session looks at the practicalities of mapping, designing and assessing the land. You will have the choice of a Saturday or Sunday for this essential course component.

Optional practical garden sessions are on offer throughout the course.

The course will culminate in a group design project of your choosing, preferably one that will have a positive impact on the community. Past projects have included a community garden centre, tree nursery, waste ground regeneration, community allotments, retirement home kitchen garden, city centre eco-hostel and a city farm.

The library provides over 100 useful books and magazines to borrow during the course.

Cost £300.00 full. £200 low waged and £100 unwaged.
